A short biography was included in the History of Greenville County while he was still living:
DOCTOR THADDEUS B. REEVES
DR. THADDEUS B. REEVES, widely known surgeon of Greenville, was born in Laurens, South Carolina, on November 5th, 1885, being the son of F. B. and Emma (Gray) Reeves. His father was a merchant and prominent citizen of Laurens County, while his mother was a member of the well-known Gray family of the same county. Her father fought for the Confederacy during the whole of the War Between the States.

As a youth Dr. Reeves attended the public schools of Laurens County and then entered Clemson College. From this institution he was graduated with a B.S. degree in 1909. Having decided upon the medical profession as a life's work, after graduating from Clemson, he became a student at the University of Virginia, from which he was graduated as an M.D. in 1914. Desiring to specialize in surgery he then entered the University of Minnesota, and here he received the degree of Master of Science in Surgery in 1919. Following this he was a student under the world-famous Mayo Brothers at their Rochester, Minnesota, Clinic.

During the latter part of 1920 Dr. Reeves established himself in Greenville in the practice of general surgery, and during the ten years which have since passed he has gained wide recognition in his profession. At various times he has held the position of Surgeon-in-Chief at the Emma Moss Booth Hospital, consulting surgeon for United States Veterans Hospital No. 26, and orthopedic surgeon for both the Southern Railway and the Piedmont & Northern Railway.

In medical and surgical circles Dr. Reeves' opinions are highly regarded, as evidenced by the large number of papers contributed by him to the medical and surgical journals of the country. Among these may be mentioned:

"On the Presence of Interstitial Cells in the Chickens Tests"-The Anatomical Record, Volume 9, page 5-May, 1915.

"A Double Umbilicus"-The Anatomical Record, Volume 10, page 1-November, 1915.

"A Study of the Arteries Supplying the Stomach and Duodenum and Their Relations to Ulcer"-Collected Papers of Mayo Clinic, Volume 11, 1919.

"Fracture of the Skull"-International Journal of Medicine and Surgery, Volume 37, No. 7.

"Fracture and Dislocation of the Spine"-International Journal of Surgeons, Volume 35, No. 7.

"Chronic Cholecystitus"-Journal of the South Carolina Medical Association, April, 1922.

Dr. Reeves is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Greenville City, Greenville County, and South Carolina Medical Associations; a member of the Southern Surgical Association, a Mason, a member of the Greenville Kiwanis Club, and a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha College fraternity.

In the business and civic life of Greenville, Dr. Reeves holds a prominent place. His offices are in the Jordan Building on North Main Street. He is unmarried.

Research Notes

Census implied he was born in 1885. The records for him and his siblings seem to shift each birth year by two. So many records state he was born 5 Nov 1885 but the census implied 1887.
