Narrative

Child of William H. Reeves and Jane H. Tilley:
  1. Pocahontas Reeves, 1836-1918
When William Reeves, Sr.'s estate was settled, Charles Reeves executed a Power of Attorney written 4 Sep 1822 in Halifax, Virginia for his son, William H. Reeves, to act on his behalf in settling the estate. This POA is recorded in Madison County, Kentucky Deed Book P, pg. 207 and was certified by Peter Reves as Justice of the Court of Halifax.

William apparently made the trip to Kentucky along with his uncle Peter to settle the estate of his grandfather.

The 1831 will of Charles Reeves gives no explanation but explicitly displays the animosity William's father Charles felt for the Tilley family into which William married. In both the will and a codicil written later he directs that William not receive a full legacy “if my son William Reaves has gone contrary to my wish in visiting at the house of Henry Tilleys & hath not taken my advice to break off from the family”.
