Research Notes

(1) William John Reeves was a second generation member of his family to be associated with the Reeves company which produced artist materials. Grace's Guides to British Industrial History has a good explanation of the company's history and the various names it traded under at https://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Reeves_and_Sons

(2) The baptism of son Charles is recorded with the surname of as REEVE, but all other references examined name him as Charles REEVES.

(3) With one exception, on each of their children's baptism entry their father is named as William John REEVES, with his middle name of John sometimes added with an insertion mark (inverted letter v). The one exception is the baptism of daughter Maria where the parents are recorded as William and Ann Reeves. However their place of residence at Holborn Bridge is consistent with earlier and later baptisms. Two of Maria's sons were later to be involved in the running of the Reeves company.
