William was born in Cork, Ireland and at the time of the 1861 census was being educated at Rugby School, in Warwickshire, England.At the time of the 1871 census he was recorded as a visitor in the household of Caroline CORNELL in Chelsea, Middlesex (now part of London). His occupation was given as China Merchant and he is unmarried.
The marriage of William to Letitia DROUGHT is recorded in the first quarter of 1876 in the Winchester Registration District.

His name appears fairly frequently in the London Gazette, starting in November 1891, as a Liquidator of companies being wound up. Later entries reference his business address as 2 Tokenyard Building in the City of London.

William's death is recorded in the Dutch Civil Register site as occurring on 25 February 1907. His death was recorded on 1 March 1907 in the municipality of 's-Gravenzande, which is in Zuid-Holland. It notes he was 63 years old and born at Vostersburg (Ierland).
