Headstone states he died of Typhoid Fever in November 1856.

Estate records show that he had a widow Elizabeth and a son William P. Reeves who was born after his father's death. Witnesses in the estate papers state he died about 23 Nov 1856 in Columbiana. One of the estate papers mentioned that the widow and son lived in Cherokee County, Alabama at the time.
