George W. Rieves "was born in Hadley Township (Chatham county, N. C.), grew up upon a farm and was engaged in this vocation when war broke out. He entered the Confederate Army as a member of Murchison's Cavalry and followed the flag of the South in many hard fought campaigns. Later he inherited a farm from his maternal grandfather in Hadley Tws." where he died in 1892.
