From Reliques of the Rives:
Dr. James Taylor Rieves, born in Chatham county, North Carolina, and now city physician of Greensboro, "represents a family that has lived in North Carolina four generations and in his individual career has displayed qualities which raise a man above the ordinary in attainments and power of mind." He attended Dalton School, was graduated from the Louisville Medical College (M. D.) in 1891, and later took post-graduate courses in Richmond, Virginia, and at the Polyclinic in New York. He practiced medicine for ten years in Julian, North Carolina, removing to Greensboro in 1901 and was appointed city physician in 1917.
