From Reliques of the Rives:
Claudius Green Rives was born near Good Hope and Fairview Churches, Richland county, S. C, on November 23, 1816; and upon the removal of his parents to Alabama, entered the University of Alabama, from which he was graduated with the degrees of B. A. and M. A. in 1842; being described in the register of graduates of that institution as "merchant, planter, and capitalist." He married, 1st, September 23, 1841, in Dallas county Ala., Mary Margaret Crumpton (b. Oct. 14, 1821, d. Nov. 1, 1841) 2nd, July 24, 1844, in Lowndes county Ala., Sarah Sophronia Waldron, daughter of William Roach Waldron (b. Jan. 8, 1800, in Boston, Mass.), and his wife, Temperance Elizabeth Cobb (b. 1807, in Va.), daughter of Caleb Cobb and his wife, Elizabeth Quarles, daughter of Roger Quarles and his wife, Elmira Walton, daughter of George Walton and his wife, Dorothy Chambers. Mr. C. G. Rives was the Worshipful Master of the Meridian Sun Lodge No. 88 of Masons at Pleasant View, Ala., having held the same office in the Lodge at Braggs, Ala., where he made his home at one time. He died June 22, 1857, leaving issue by his second wife.

Daughter Mary is buried in the New Bethel Cemetery in Braggs, Lowndes County.
