According to Reliques: "He was a farmer and carpenter and, during the war, served in the Confederate Army as a private in Co. C, 8th Tenn. Inf. Following the war he became a member of the original Ku Klux Klan."

His Civil War service record state he deserted 28 Nov 1863.

Research Notes

The marriage record for James M. Rives states his wife's maiden name as Parker. She may have married twice. This needs verification.

There is a stone, but not original, for him in Shady Grove Cemetery, Pattonville, Lamar County, Texas.
