The Advertiser extends a cordial welcome to Mr. J. U. Rives and Mr. E. S. Rives, of Aiken, who have purchased the mercantile business of Mr. James M. Cobb and will conduct it at the same stand under the firm name of Rives Bros. These gentlemen are experienced and very successful merchants, having been engaged in business in iken for the past eighteen years. Mr. E. S. Rives will leave for New York in a few days to purchase a large stock of dry goods, notions, shoes and millinery It is their purpose to pay especial attention to their millinery department. An expert milliner will be in charge during the entire year.
Mr. E. S. Rives will move his family at once and Mr. J. U. Rives will bring his family to Edgefield the latter part of September, after they return from the mountains.

Mr. J. U. Rives a Candidate for Mayour.
Mr. James U Rives, a member of the dry goods firm of Rives Brothers, is prominently mentioned as a candidate for mayor of Edgefield. He is a wide-awake man and should he consent to become a candidate and be elected, he would give the town a good administration. He came here from Aiken several years ago. It is said that as president of the chamber of commerce of Aiken, he accomplished much for that town.

Edgeflier (sic), Sept. 29 - J. U. Rives, a prominent merchant of Edgefield, died suddenly tonight from acute indigestion. The body will be taken to Aiken Wednesday for interment.
Mr. Rives, who was 53 years of age, was a member of the firm of Rives Brothers, dry goods merchants. He was a member of the town council and of the Edgefield Baptist church.
Mr. Rives leaves a wife and four daughters as follows: Mrs. J. H. Nicholson, Miss Maude Rives, Miss Gladys Rives of Greenville Female college and Miss Elizabeth Rives. He also leaves his brother, E. S. Rives, who was associated with him in business.
