The Morgan County Court recorded the following in its minutes for 1 Jan 1827:

Richard H. Randolph was this day appointed Guardian of John G. Rives and Thomas Rives orphans of Simon Rives Deceased who was duly qualified in open court

Sarah Wingfield Rives apparently died in childbirth with George and Sarah (twins?) in 1858 for she is deceased by the 1860 census.

A file in the name of John G. Reeves, dated circa 1858 which pertains to the guardianship of the Rives children with an F. G. Wingfield as trustee, can be found at the Georgia Virtual Vault

There is a tombstone in the Madison Historic Cemeteries, Madison, Morgan County, Georgia which reads "Mary Elizabeth infant daughter of John G. and Sarah Ann Rives Born 21st October Died 29th December 1838 aged 2 months 8 days."

In the 1860 census, John G. Rives (incorrectly listed as Reaves) is living in what appears to be a boarding house next door to the residence of his mother-in-law, Susan Wingfield in whose home his five youngest children are living (names are also listed as Reaves). Thomas G. Rives, age 19, is living at another residence of a merchant, Thomas Hogue, and is listed as a clerk.
