Littlebury William Rives was born in Dinwiddie county, Virginia, March 14, 1828, and died at the Confederate Soldiers Home near Nashville, Tennessee, in 1911. He saw service in the Confederate Army as a private in Co. B, 8th Tenn. Cavalry. At the close of the war he moved to Lamar county, Texas, when there were few white people in that county, and where he lived the life of the sturdy pioneers who settled that state. Mr. Rives, who was a farmer and cattle raiser, married Frances Sharp.
His Civil War Service Record states he was wounded in battle at Murfreesboro 31 Dec 1862. He was at home for some months, then listed as deserted 15 Aug 1863. Although Reliques states he was in Company B, his service record states he was in Company C.
