From Reliques of the Rives:
The first appearance of Robert Rives in the Brunswick records is on November 17, 1767, when he was the witness to a deed made by his father. On November 29, 1771, he purchased for 5 pounds from Timothy Rives, Senr. (his father), of Brunswick, 210 acres of land in Brunswick County 'on Moses Rives line.' The following year he was the surety for his brother Timothy Rives upon the marriage of the latter in Brunswick to Priscilla Turner. In 1773 he was the surety — with William Rives — of Benjamin Rives, his first cousin, of Brunswick, when the last-named was appointed guardian of Frances Rives (sister of Benjamin). On the same day, August 23rd, in that year, he witnessed a deed of William Rives to William Turner. One month later, on September 27, 1773, he was appointed guardian to Marianna and John Williamson, his sureties being Simon and John Rives. Shortly thereafter he had removed to South Carolina for on December 4, 1775, as "Robert Rives of Craven County, South Carolina," he deeded for 100 pounds to John Spence 210 acres in Brunswick County, Virginia, "at a corner of Simon Rives by Timothy Rives Senr. line," the witnesses thereto being John Turner, Frederick Davis, and Wm. Womack. The land grants of South Carolina show the issuance to him of 640 acres on April 3, 1786, in Camden District, while the Federal census of 1790 records him as residing in Camden District, and as the owner of 32 slaves. His will dated October 28, 1790, and probated in that county on January 3, 1793, mentions specifically five children named below, his wife Priscilla, and appointed 'my beloved brother Timothy Rives & my friend Thos Taylor' executors."
Reliques notes: "Of the above issue I have found no trace of any descendants."
Robert Rives and Timothy Reeves, Junr and are listed as jurors between the Broad and Catawba Rivers in South Carolina 1778-1779.
Although Reliques lists approximate birth years for the children, there is no source given for these and are probably estimates based on Robert's approximate age. However, the 1843 will of William Rives in Fairfield District mentions his sister Patience Poarch and so appears to be this same William, son of Robert. William was living alone in Fairfield District with his birth between 1790 and 1800. It's probable then that the rest of these children were born closer to 1790.
