Probate records from Lawrence County, Arkansas show that John L. Griffin applied for the letters of administration on the estate of Thomas T. Rives 26 Jan 1863 with the known heirs as William Rives and Richard Rives. John Griffin stated that Thomas T. Rives "died on or about 7th October 1862 without a will."
