Narrative
William M. Rives served as a private in Capt. James Dunnington's company of militia in 1813. He later studied law and was admitted to practice in Campbell County, Virginia in 1815. He subsequently represented Campbell County in the Virginia House of Delegates.After 1832 he moved to Fayette County, Tennessee where in 1838 he married his cousin Sarah A. Rives. He later moved to Hinds County, Mississippi where he continued to practice law and eventually divorced from Sarah.
William appears to have died without issue. His Hinds County will makes bequests to various nieces, nephews and other relatives.
