From Reliques of the Rives:
William Rives, born about 1748, died before 1782 when Jemima Rives, his widow, is shown in the Prince George county tax lists as the owner of 240 1/2 acres of land, representing a half -share in the estate of her father-in-law, Robert Rives, which her husband had inherited from his brother, Irvin Rives. In his brief lifetime, William Rives appears in the records on the occasion of the purchase by him on January 25, 1769, for £10:9 from William Fox, of Brunswick county, Virginia, his brother-in-law, of 174 acres in Brunswick county, to which Benjamin Sykes, John Jeter, and George Rives, his uncle, were witnesses. He disposed of this land in 1772 for £25 to Nathan Prince, at which times the witnesses were George Rives, William Massey, and William Fox. William Rives married Jemima Heath, daughter of William Heath, the marriage bond dated June 19, 1775, being of record in Sussex county, Virginia. William Heath, of Albemarle Parish, Sussex county, made his will July 7, 1775, which was probated June 19, 1777, in which he bequeathed his daughter Jemima Rives one negro girl Jenny and one spinning wheel, mentioned his wife Eliza beth, his sons Josiah, Thomas [m. in 1780, Selah, daughter of Peter Rives], David, Nathan [m. Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Cureton], and his daughters Rebecca Peebles [m. Lemuel Peebles and had, amongst others, Agnes Peebles, b. Mch. 15, 1772, who m. Jesse, b. Nov. 5, 1765, son of Wm. and Margaret (Bonner) Heath], Winifred Cureton, Betty Heath, and his grandson Seth Heath.
