Narrative

The Wake County Court records in Will Book 20, Page 192 show that on the 14th of December 1825 the court allotted one year's provision out of the Estate of John Reeves for his widow Debby Reeves, which was:

Twelve Hogs
A24 Barrels of Corn
400 pounds of seed cotton
1 Choice Cow
Cash for sugar, coffee, salt etc 12.50

Two years after John Reeves death, Debby married Thomas Humphries, a Wake County resident, in 1826.

There is a deed dated 17 November 1828 in Wake County Deed Book 9 at page 140 wherein the Sheriff of Wake County, William R. Hinton conveyed to Ambrose Phipps the highest and last bidder, the 70 acres that had been set aside for Debby Reeves' dower from the estate of John Reeves. The deed states that the sheriff had seized this tract to be sold in payment of Thomas Humphries debts.

In the 1848 will of Frederick C. Geer, Jr., Deborah Humphreys was a legatee, receiving a bequest of $50.
