From Reliques of the Rives:
Court of Wards, Inq. P. M. Dated 7 October 1642. An inquisition taken at Henley-on-Thames October 7th 18 Charles I (1642) the jury say that long before the death of William Ryves Esquire, a certain William Ryves, knight, father of the said William Ryves owned the lands called Great Horestowne, Charwells leazes alias the Shiphousc Close, Abington peece and Hawkwell peece and other lands situated in the parish of St. Giles within the suburb and the city of Oxford and Wolvercott Holliwell and Marston in the County of Oxford. Sir William by an indenture dated June 3rd 10 Charles I 1634 between Sir William Ryves and Edward Bagshawe, knight, William Ryves, son and heir apparent of the said Sir William Ryves and Elizabeth Bagshaw, daughter of the said Edward Bagshaw in consideration of a certain marriage then to be solemnized between William Ryves and Elizabeth Bagshaw a fine was levied in trinity term 11 Charles I (1635) between Arthur Leigh, Bart, and the said Edward Bagshaw, plaintiffs, and William Ryves and Dorothy his wife defendants to the use of the said William Ryves and Elizabeth Bagshawe and their heirs male and after their death to the use of the said Sir William Ryves and the lady Mary Ryves lately the wife of the said William Ryves and in default of such issue to Charles Ryves second son of the said Sir William Ryves and his heirs male and in default of such issue to George Ryves third son of the said Sir William Ryves and his heirs male. The said William Ryves died on July 3rd last. William Ryves is his son and next heir and was on May 10th last of the age of seven years. Sir William Ryves and Elizabeth Ryves, lately wife of the said William Ryves are still in full life.
