We're Coming Back

We're Coming Back

As you know, the site has been closed since Thursday 9 September (2010), but today, Monday 18 October (2010), we'll begin progressively re-opening the site. I'll leave Barry to provide a technical explanation of what happened, but he had eight websites clobbered at the same time. He was eventually able to rebuild our TW and first gave me access on Tuesday 5 October and in the past fortnight we've identified eleven issues, the majority of which are now resolved.

From a user perspective, the most serious issue remaining affects Forums. Until further notice, we kindly ask that you do not post any Forum items or replies.

In rebuilding the site, Barry has upgraded the underlying TW software from version 4.2 to 4.3. That doesn't seem to have introduced any new user functionality that I've noticed, but it has resolved several annoyances which affected site administration. Most significantly, the "REDIRECT" functionality is now working. This will mean that wiki pages for a woman's married name(s) can be easily linked back to her maiden name. See FAQ_Indexing_Married_Women for guidance on how to use it.

Wiki Stats - End September 2010.

I realise our access to the Wiki was curtailed during September, but as soon as Barry granted me access on 5 Oct I made a note of the then current status.

The total number of pages in the Wiki (as at 5 Oct 2010) was 1457 (previously 1355, 893), an increase on 102 pages in the nine days of September. Of these 520 pages (was 508, 404) begin with the letter R so are probably related to a R*v*s individual and 192 pages (was 179, 126) begin with a number so are probably a date related gleaning.

October 2010

Given that September was a "short month", much of what was planned still remains. Please see the news article posted on 1 September 2010 for a reminder. What are you planing to do within the Wiki this month?
