6000th Wiki Page

In the 1 June edition of TRP News, I noted that we were close to having 6000 active wiki pages. Well, we reached that land mark yesterday, on Sunday 13 July.

Beverly, who's our most prolific contributor, has just added a page for an individual called Presley Reeves who was born around 1812 in South Carolina. I suspect Bev's not a great football (soccer) fan as she was adding and changing wiki pages right through the World Cup Final. The page for Presley was added shortly after the game ended.

We celebrated our 5500th page in June 2013 and our 5000th page back in November 2012

3.5m Page Views

We are also rapidly closing in on another milestone. Recently TRP servers have been generating over 2,200 page views on a typical day in response to requests to see content in TRP, a number which is slowly but steadily rising. For an explanation of a Page View see here. As I write, we've generated over 3,465,776 page views since TRP first started up.

I'd expect that number to exceed 3.5 million just prior to the end of this month (July 2014). OK, we're not in the same league as Google or Facebook, but for a volunteer project its pretty good going.

TRP served up its 3,500,000th page view some time between 22h00BST on 17 July and 06h30BST on 18 July (probably just prior to midnight EDT on Thursday 17 July). It happened a little sooner than I expected, since the 2200 page views per day number noted above is the life time average for TRP. Back in the early days of TRP there were few pages, few users and those pages weren't visible to anonymous users, so the daily number of page views would have been very low. TRP has been active since 5 April 2010, thats 1565 days. Over the past few days the daily number of page views has been about 7,500.
