May 2015

Wiki Stats - End April 2015

The total number of pages in the Wiki (as at 1 May 2015) now stands at 6381 (previously 6254, 6185, 6158), an increase of 127 pages during the past month.   Of these 1275 pages (was 1273, 1273, 1270, 1270) begin with number and are most probably a date related gleaning. We currently have 2620 wiki pages categorised as "People", of which 2204 begin with the letter "R".

This increase of 127 pages is the largest monthly addition since April 2014; I'd be throwing my hat even higher in the air if the vast majority of those new pages hadn't been contributed by just three users.

As regular reader will be aware, I don't subscribe to the “I have nothing to add” line of thought. At the very least we’d like everybody to create an AboutMe page so we know where your Reeves interests lie and also a person page for your Reeves grandparent (or great grandparent to avoid living individuals) or your most recent Reeves ancestor if your Reeves blood has been diluted through the generations. If a page already exists for your most recent Reeves ancestor, you can always add a sentence or two as a Research Note to explain your relationship to the individual, even if you have nothing to add to their life story Narrative.

TRP Users

We ended March April 2015 with 211 user accounts registered with TRP, with two new members successfully activating their account during the month. We welcome Janice and Patrick (Pat) and look forward to their contributions to TRP. Pat has already jumped in and created a page for one of his ancestors Abram/Abraham Reaves. We hope he'll continue the good work and add a page for each of Abram’s 10 children, in which case he’ll be well on his way to becoming a seasoned TRP user.

Cosmetic Home Page Change

The eagle eye amongst you will have notice a minor cosmetic change to the home page which went live this morning (1May2015).

It’s bothered me for some time that the six links towards the foot of the home page were a bit jumbled up and not sufficiently discrete. We wanted to avoid adding a blank line between the two rows since for some users that would move more of the page “below the fold” and require additional scrolling. The chequer board effect we’ve decided to adopt makes each of the topics much clearer and we hope you like it. Even better, it was easy to implement!
