TRP Users

We ended October with 256 user accounts registered in TRP, an increase of three over the previous month end. However, we removed one stale account during the same period and we had four new members activate their accounts during the month. We welcome Susan, Steven, Chris and Debbie and look forward to seeing their contributions to our wiki.

Reeves DNA Project Update

During October the Reeves DNA Project has enrolled one new member. Well I thought it was about time I personally dipped my toe in the DNA testing waters. I received my Family Finder results during October and as yet don't seem to have any strong matches.

The DNA Project admins made some changes on 31 October 2016 to a couple of the groups and a few recent results have now been assigned to their respective groups. You'll find details of these changes here.

Another DNA Success

                  by Beverly Watson

The recent DNA results of TRP member Nancy Reeves’ husband George is solving another mystery. George descends from John Reeves who died in Craven County, North Carolina in 1790. His origins have long been puzzling to family researchers. There were no clues in Craven County or elsewhere to tie him to any of the other North Carolina Reeves’ families. When George’s DNA results were complete, there were no matches in the Reeves DNA Project, but he did have a match in the FtDNA database to a James C. Reeves. George’s wife Nancy wrote to this match. When they responded she found that he was a descendant of Josias Reeves who died in Pickaway, Ohio and descended from the Reeves’ family of Charles and St. Mary’s counties in Maryland. These Maryland counties have had a large Reeves’ presence since the colonial era but no one from this lineage had ever done a Y Chromosome DNA test. Nancy is working diligently on this connection and hopefully will find documentation of John’s lineage.
