Elizabeth “Betsy” Wilkerson Reeves was the daughter of Wyatt Wilkerson of Prince George County, Virginia and Mary Britt of Goochland County, Virginia.

Wyatt and Mary were married in Goochland County, but left there before 1779, relocating to Granville County, North Carolina along with Mary's sister Hannah Britt and her husband William Longmire where they remained for approximately twenty years.

Sometime before 1800, the Wyatt Wilkerson family moved westward to Kentucky where Wyatt's name is listed among the settlers who at one time lived within Fort Boonesborough.

In Madison County, Kentucky on the 5th of Jan. 1802, Betsy Wilkerson married George Reeves.

A 1786 Granville County, NC deed to Elizabeth Wilkerson's father, Wyatt, for land on the north side of the Neuse River at the mouth of Knap of Reeds Creek suggests that George Reeves may have known Betsy and the Wilkerson family before moving to Kentucky. This tract of land on Knap of Reeds Creek would be in close proximity to William Reeves' land on the south side of the Neuse being almost directly across the river.
