Transcript

To all Christian People to whom these may com or concern know ye that I Henry Reives being sick and week of Body but of Good understanding for which I am Thankfull to ye Lord for and Calling to mind that I must sooner or Later betaken away from this world, Do thing (sic) fit to mak this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form as following This twenty fourth Day of ye Eighth month Cald October in ye year of our Lord One thousand seven Hundred forty and five
Imprimis I commit my soul to him that gave it to me and order my Body to be buried in such decent order as my exectuors hereafter named shall think meet & covenant
Item I order all my lands to be sould by my executrix and executor for and in consideration of ye payments of my just debts and if more equill dividing of it amongst my children and ye education and schooling of them and do hereby nominate and appoint my living wife Abigal and my Brother Thomas Reives executrix and executor of this my will and Do hereby Give them or if surviving of them full power to sell and convey and make Deed or Deeds for all my real estate Whatsoever or where soever according to the True Intent and meaning hreof and do prevoak and make void all former will or wills heretofore by me made and this to stand for my Last Will and Testament
Item I give and bequeath unto my six children viz Hope Reves, James Reves, Ann Reves, Abraham Reves, Henry Reves and Mary Reves, the sum of five pound current money of America according to proclamation a peas, or to each one of them and to be paid to them when the severally arive to ye age that is to say my sons twenty and one and my Daughters to Eighteen and if any of my children Do parteth this life before they so arive to that age that then their share to be equally devided amongst my surviving children And that my widow have ye use or profit of it untill it becomes due unto my said children and if my widow should marry that then my Brother Thomas to have ye care that my children have the sd five pound secured to them
Item I order all my just debts to be justly and truely paid and discharged by my above named exectrix and executor or ye survivor of them
Item all the Remainder and remainders of my estate both real and personall I give and bequeath to my sd wife and that she have the care and charge of educating and schooling of my children and have hereunto set my hand and fixt my seal the Day and year above writen.

N.B. the words (or ye survivingof them) and (I do) was enterlined before ye sealing and Declaring of this will sealed & declared as his last will and testament in the presents of us Richard Floyd Jonathan Flower Jos a Lord
Be it remembered that on the Twentieth Day day of January Anno Dom 1745 Before me Lond Lade surrogate for the County of Gloucester duly commissioned & Joshua Lord one of the witnesses to the within written will who being of the people called Quakers on his solemn affirmation which he took according to law did Declare and affirm that he saw Henry Reves the testator therein named sign and seal the same and heard him publish pronounce & Declare the within written instrument to be his Last Will and Testament and that ye doing thereof the sd Testator was of sound and Disposing mind and memory and understanding to the best of his knowledge and belief and that at the same time Richard Floyd and Jonathan Fowler the .. subscribing witnesses were present and subscribed their names as witnesses to the sd will. Together with this affirmation in the presense of the said Testator Jos a Lord affirmed at Deptford in the County of Gloucester the day & year above written, Before me John Ladd Surr Be it Remembered that on the Twenieth Day of January Anno Dom 1745 Before me John Ladd Surrogate of the County of Gloucester duly Commissioed &c Jonathan Fowler one of the Witnesses to ye within written will who being duly sworn on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty god did depose that he saw Henry Reves the Testator therein named sign & seal the same and heard him publish pronounce and declare the within written instrument to be his Last Will and Testament and that at the Doing thereof the said Testator was of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding to the best of his knowledge and belief and that at the same time Joshua Lord, & Richard Floyd the other subscribing evidences were present and subscribed their names as witnesses to the said Will Together with this Deponent in presence of ye said Testator. Jonathan Fowler sworn at Deptford in the County of Gloucester the Day and year above written before me John Ladd surrogate - Be it also remembered that the Last Will & Testament of Henry Reeves being duly proved as above said probate and letters Testamentary were granted by His execllency Lewis Morris Esqr Governor of the Province of New Jersey unto Abigail Reves & Thomas Reves executrix & executor in the said Testament named the said Abigail being duly affirmed and that the said Thomas being duly sworn (?) and truly to perform the said will and exhibit a true & perfect Inventory and render a just account when thereunto lawfully Required. Given under the Prerogative Seal of the said Province at Burlington the twenty sixth day of February Anno Domini 1745.
