Introduction

The Grathwohl Collection contains a number of verbatim transcriptions of various unrecorded deeds held by families of Southold. This deed from the Grathwohl Collection is Land Item #157 in Baker's Study of the Reeve Family.

Transcript

To all people to whom these presents shall come Greeting Know ye that I Daniel Reeve of Goshen In orrange County and Collony of nework In America yoeman for and in consideration of six pound fowr shillings current money of newyork to me In hand well and truly paid by my uncle James Reeve of Southold In the county of Suffolk and province afforesd yeoman the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledg and my self therewith fully sattissfyed contented and pd and thereof and therefrom do Exonerate aquit and disscharge him the sd James Reeve his heirs executors administrators forever by these presents have given granted bargained sold alliened enfeofed conveyed and confirmed unto him the sd James Reeve his heirs and assigns forever one right or share of land on the south side of peaconneck river in the mannor of St georges which was purchased of Colonol Henery Smith and Devised to me by the last will and Testament of of my deceased grandfather James Reeve To have and to hold sd right of undivided land with all & singular the appurtenances preveledges and commodities to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining unto him the said James Reeve his heirs and assigns forever to his and their own proper use benefit and behoofe forever and I the sd Daniel Reeve for my self my heirs Executors administrators do covenant and ingage the above right or share of undivided Land unto my sd uncle James Reeve and to his heirs and assigns or the lawfull and claimes or demands of any person or persons whatsoever forever hereafter to warrent secure & forever by these presents to defend in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal this twenty third day of April anno domini 1762 and in the second year of the Reign of George the third over great Brittian &c
