In 1762, Daniel Reeve of Goshen, Orange County, executed two deeds to his uncle James Reeve for land he had inherited from his grandfather James Reeve, Esq., Capt.. It states that Daniel's father Daniel was deceased at the time.

The Dering Letters, a collection of letters from or to the Dering family from 1733 to 1838 contains a letter written from James Reeve to Thomas Dering dated 15 Apr 1769 which includes the following:
I have received a short account my brother's son Daniel Reeve of Goshen has lost his house and near all of values in it as given under oath to value at 350 pounds by accident of fire. His father in law Joshua Brown is now with me. We are contriving how to proceed in asking charity for his relief. How people will be [-] is uncertain. I encouraged him to come to Shelter Island on [-] account if it takes place hopefully I expect to come when Mr. Nicoll's heirs meet about your affairs, yours J Reeve

This is insightful as it shows Daniel Reeve was still living in Goshen about 1769. He refers to his "father in law" Joshua Brown, which was an old term for step-father. Joshua Brown had married his mother Experience Reeve after his father Daniel passed.

A listing of the Orange County Militia, Bounty Rights, 1st Regiment includes Daniel Reeve and Daniel Reeve, Jr. This, in connection with a mortgage from 1801 from "Daniel Reeve the younger" and his wife Nancy shows that this Daniel must be the father of that younger Daniel Reeve who was present in Goshen. Surrogate and other records show that this younger Daniel had siblings Isaac, James, and Joanna. This would therefore make all of them children of this Daniel.
