In the Name of God Amen. I Thomas Ryves Esqr of the Belvedere in the County of Surry do make publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner following viz I will and direct that all my just debts and funeral expences be paid and satisfied and it is my will to be buried in the church of the parish in which I shall happen to dye or in such church as my executrix shall think proper paying an attention to aconemy in all that relates to my funeral expences as to my worldly estate I give devise and bequeath the same as follows that is to say I give devise and bequeath my Leasehold house in the county of Surry called the Belvedere with all the outbuildings yards gardens orchards lands grounds and appurtenances thereunto belonging unto my deare wife Anna Maria Ryves for the remainder of the term of twenty one yeares which I have therein in case my wife shall so long live and continue my Widow to and for her own use and benefit she my said wife paying the Rent and performing all the covenants reserved and expressed in the lease thereof on the tenant or lessees part to be paid and performed. But in case my said wife shall happen to dye or marry again before the expiration of the said term then and in such case I give devise and bequeath my said house and premises aforesaid with their appurtenances from and immediately after her death or marriage to my dear son George Frederick Ryves his Executors Administrators and assigns for and during the then residue of the said term of twenty one years to and for his and their own use and benefit he my said son from thence forth paying the rent and performing the covenants reserved and contained in the said lease on the tenant lessees part to be paid and performed I also give and bequeath unto my said wife the use of all my said household goods furniture and pictures in my said house for and during the term of her natural Life in case she shall so long continue my widow and from and immediately after her decease or in case of her marrying again from and immediately after such marriage I give and bequeath my said household goods furniture and pictures unto my said son George Frederick Ryves to and for his own use and benefit But in case my said son George Frederick Ryves shall be then dead and shall leave one or more children lawfully issuing I give and bequeath my said household goods furniture and pictures unto such child or children of my said son George Frederick Ryves and for his her or their own use and benefit and if more than one equally to be divided between or amongst them share and share alike and in case my said son George Frederick Ryves shall happen to dye in my lifetime without leaving any such issue as aforesaid it is my will and mind that my son Henry Pleydell Ryves and his lawfull issue shall stand in the place of my said son George Frederick Ryves and succeed to my said leasehold houses and premises aforesaid household goods furniture and pictures aforesaid upon the contingencie aforesaid in such and the same way and manner and at such time and as fully in ever respect as I have hereinbefore given and devised and bequeathed the same to my said George Frederick Ryves and his lawful issue and I hereby give devise and bequeath the same premises with their appurtenances unto my said son Henry Pleydell Ryves his executors administrators and assigns and lawful issue accordingly and in case my said sons George Frederick Ryves and Henry Pleydell Ryves shall happen to due in my lifetime without having any such issue as aforesaid I give devise and bequeath my said household furniture goods and pictures aforesaid upon the contingences aforesaid unto my daughters Elizabeth Ryves Mariana Georgiana wife of Wm Leigh Symes Esqr and Henrietta Ann Ryves equally to be divided between them share and share alike to and for theire own use and benefit I give and bequeath unto my said dear wife three hundred pounds for her own use and benefit I also give and bequeath to each of my daughters Elizabeth Ryves and Henrietta Ann Ryves tow hundred pounds each for their own use and benefit and I give to my daughters Mariana Georgina Symes one hundred and fifty pounds the sum I advanced her husband which will appear due to me from the Bond of insuring his Life and also by his own Letters to me I also give to my son Thomas Ryves one hundred pounds having before assisted him with more than twenty thousand pounds I also give and bequeath to my dear daughter Elizabeth Ryves my diamond Ring with her mothers picture in it and to my son Henry Pleydell Ryves my Black antique Ring to my Grandson James Williams I give one hundred pounds to be paid him at the age of eighteen years a time that a little pocket money might be acceptable to my niece Miss Ann Pleydell of Milborne Saint Andrews I give my Enameled spy glass as I know it suits her eye and also as a mark of my esteem for her to my son in law James Williams Esqr and my old friend Mr Henry Hall of Child Oakford a five guinea Ring to each of them also Rings of the same value to those Relations my wife thinks proper to give them to I give to all my servants that have lived with me three years and remain in my service at my decease at my decease five guineas to each of them and the same sum to William Smithers and Daniel Swaningcrouten if in my service at my decease I give and bequeath the remainder of the term I leave therein and all my houses freehold situated in East Smithfield and Waking Street in the City of London with their and every of their Rights Members and their Appurtenances subject nevertheless to a Mortgage thereon to my said Daughter Elizabeth Ryves for four hundred and sixty pounds and all other my estates both real and personal of what kind soever and wheresoever situate lying or being not hereinbefore disposed off subject nevertheless to the payment of all my just debts funeral expences and legacies unto my said son George Frederick Ryves his heirs executors administrators and assigns as his and their own proper estates goods and chattels for ever But in case my said son George Frederick Ryves shall happen to dye in my lifetime leaving one or more child or children lawfully begotten I give devise and bequeath my last mentioned estates both real and personal subject as aforesaid unto such child or children of my said son George Frederick Ryves if more than one equally to be divided between them or amongst them share and share alike or to his her or their heirs executors administrators and assigns for ever and in case my said son George Frederick Ryves shall happen to dye in my lifetime without leaving any issue as aforesaid or being such all of them shall dye under the age of twenty one years I give devise and bequeath my said last mentioned estates both real and personal (subject as aforesaid unto my said son Henry Pleydell Ryves his heirs executors or administrators and assigns as his and their own proper estates goods and chattels for ever But in case my said son Henry Pleydell Ryves shall happen to die in my lifetime leaving one or more child or children lawfully begotten I give devise and bequeath my last mentioned estates both real and personal subject as aforesaid unto such child or children of my said son Henry Pleydell Ryves and if more than one equally to be divided share and share alike between or amongst them and to his her or their heirs executors administrators and assigns for ever and in case my son Henry Pleydell Ryves shall happen to dye in my lifetime without leaving any such issue as aforesaid or being such all of them shall happen to dye under the age of twenty one years I give devise and bequeath my said last mentioned estates both real and personal subject as aforesaid unto my said daughters Elizabeth Ryves and Henryetta Ann Ryves equally to be divided between or amongst them share and share alike and to their several heirs executors admors and assigns for ever and in case any one or more of my said daughters shall happen to dye in my lifetime I give devise and bequeath the share of her or them so dying to the survivor for ever but if my said daughters Elizabeth and my said Daughter Henrietta Ann both dye without leaving any issue I then give the above estates so devised to the children of my daughter Charlotte Williams to be equally divided between them share and share alike when they obtain the age of twenty one years or to the survivors of them of the age of twenty one years or to their his or her heirs executors administrators and assigns for ever I also direct that all interest due to me in the funds and on Bonds and all other securities with all the arrears of Rents from my several estates in Middlesex Lincolnshire or elsewhere be collected as soon as they conveniently can and such amount be laid out in the finds and the interest arising therefrom shall go in aid of paying the interest due on the mortgage of my Lincolnshire estate and also apply whatsoever sum shall be pleased in the funds towards diminishing or paying the principal sum of two thousand pounds borrowed on those estates as it will be beneficial both to my dear wife and children that such mortgage is cleared off as soon as it conveniently cam as I was left executor to the will of my old servant Anthony Singleton and there remains in the 3 per cent consol. annuity's in his name I desire a little Book may be attended too in which what I have received and paid on his account will appear and shew whatever Ballance will remain in my hands for the Benefit of any children intitled to receive it having done the best I could. Lastly I constitute my dearest wife my sole executrix to this my will and hereby revoking all former wills by me made I do declare this only to be my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the Eighteenth day of October one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven.Thomas Ryves (LS)

This Will was proved at London the Eleventh day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight before the Right Worshipful Peter Calvert Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Anna Maria Ryves Widow the Relict of the deceased and sole executrix named in the said will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased having been first sworn by commission duly to administer.
