Transcript

In the name of God Amen I Simon R. Reeve of Tewkesbery in the County of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey being sick and in a low condition but of sound disposing mind and memory and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say first I recommend my soul to God who gave it and my body to the Earth to be buried in a Christian and decent like manner at the discretion of my executors hereinafter named in hopes of a Glorious resurrection thro the merits of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and as to such worldly goods and estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I do hereby order and dispose of them in the following manner viz 1st My will is that all my lawful debts and funeral charges be fully paid
Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Elizabeth my Negro wench named Rachel my Riding chair ad her choice of the horses which shall belong to my estate at the time of my decease and also her Bed and beding together with all the houshold & kitchen furniture and all the other effects which she brought me at the time and after our intermarriage I also give and bequeath unto my said loving wife Elizabeth one cow which she shall have liberty to choose and one hundred pounds lawful money of New Jersey being the other remaining part of the property or portion I recieved with her at the time or since our intermarriage to her her heirs and assigns forever and my will is further that my said Wife shall be paid out of my estate the further sum of thirty pounds lawful money aforesaid yearly and every year during her natural life all which several bequests are hereby intended to be given in lieu of her Dower which she might otherwise claim on my estate
Item I give and bequeath unto my loving son Robert the sum of one hundred pounds lawful money aforesaid to be paid him within six months next after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto my two sons John and Robert all my wearing apparel to be equally divided between them share and share alike and as to the residuence and remainder of my estate both real and personal I give and bequeath the same unto my said two sons John and Robert to be equally divided between them share and share alike to them their heirs and assigns forever and I do hereby nominate and appoint my loving and trusty friends the Reverend Joseph Rice of Pennington John Mihelen of Pheehemin? and my brother in law Jonas Adoms of New York and my loving son John Reeve to be my executors of this my last will and Testament hereby giving and granting to my said executors full power and lawful authority to sell convey and release all or any part of my estate both real and personal as in their discretion may appear most beneficial to my estate or advantageous to my aforesaid legatees and I do hereby revoke and disannul all former will or wills by me heretofore made declaring this and no other to be my last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this sixteenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety three 1793

Sally Clark, one of the witnesses to the within Will, being duly sworn on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God, did dispose and say, that she shaw Simon R. Reeve the Testator therein named, sign & seal the same, and heard him publish, pronounce and declare the within writing to be his last Will and Testament, and that at the doing thereof the said Testator was of sound and disposing mind and memory, as far as this Deponent knows and as she verily believes; and that John Fisher, Abart Voorhees and Moses Scott, the other subscribing evidences were present at the same time and signed their names as witnesses to the said will, together with this Deponent, in the presence of the said Testator.

Jonas Addoms and John Reeve, two of the executors in the within testament named, being duly sworn on the Holy Evangelist of almighty God, did severally depose and say, that the within instrument contains the true last will and Testament of Simon R. Reeve, the testator therein named, so far as they or either of them know, and as they and each of them verily believe, that they will well and truly perform the same by paying first the debts of the said Deceased and them the legacies in the said Testament specified so far as the goods chattels & credits of the said deceased can thereunto extend; and that they will make and exhibit into the prerogative office of New Jersey, a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the Goods, Chattels and credits of the said deceased, that have or shall come to their knowledge or possession or to the possession of any other person or persons for their use, and render a just and true account when thereunto lawfully required.
