This Indenture made this the 23 day of December in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred & ninety seven Between John Dicks & Mary his wife of Mason County and State of Kentucky of the one part, and Reaves of the County of Mason & State aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth That the said John Dicks & Mary his wife, for and in consideration of the sum of One pound six shillings pounds current money of Kentucky to them in hand paid before the Sealing & delivery of these presence, the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge have granted, bargained, sold & delived. & by these presence granted, bargained & sold likewise delivered unto the said Samuel Reaves his Heirs or assigns one certain Tract or parcel of Land, Situate lying & being in the County aforesaid containg (sic) five acres, adjoining German Town & Situate as follows to wit beginning at a Locust post, corner to Peter Hastings & running thence north with the said Hastings line twenty poles to a locust corner to the said Peter Hastings plat. Thence west twelve poles to a Locust post. Thence North twenty poles with the said Hastings line, To a locust post. Thence East twenty six poles to a Locust post. Thence South forty poles to a Locust post. Thence west fourteen poles to the beginning, Including five acres it being a part of the tract whereon they now live, which they purchased of Phileman Thomas. Including ways, profits & improvements thereon Stading (sic standing) growing & being & likewise all the right title interest claim & demand whatsoever of the said John Dix & his wife of in & to the premises or any part thereof. To have & to hold the aforesaid lot & premises unto the said Samuel Reaves his heirs and assigns to the only use of the said Samuel Reaves his Heirs and assigns forever & the said John Diks & his wife for themselves their heirs & the said bargained premises & every part & parcel thereof to the said Samuel Reaves his heirs and assigns shall warrant & forever defend in fee simple against the claim of them the said John Dicks & his wife & their heirs & assigns against the claim or claims of all & every other person or persons whatsoever. In Witness whereof the said John Dicks & his wife have hereunto set their hands & affixed their seals this this (sic) day & year first above written.
