Transcript

Be it Remembered that I Peter Reeve of the City of Philadelphia in the State of Pennsylva Merchant considering the uncertainty of life and being in good health of Body & sound memory do make this my last will and Testament in manner following that is to say-
First it is my will that all my just debts be paid and satisfied
Item I give devise & bequeath unto Peter, David & Sarah Saunders, children of my deceased nephew John Saunders one hundred and fifty Pounds to be divided in equal share amongst them and to be put out to interest until they arive at the age of twenty one years; and in case any or either of them should die before that time the survivors or survivor of them shall take the whole
Item I give to my nephew William Redwood Junr fifty pounds, I give to my neice Susannah Hartshorne fifty pounds, & I give to my niece Hannah Lewis fifty pounds, and I give to my niece Rachel Crukshank fifty pounds, & I give to my cousin Lydia Coates fifty pounds; and to my nephew Gilbert Rodman I give fifty pounds, and I give to my nephew William Rodman fifty pounds; I give to my nephew Lewis Howard seventy five pounds; * give to his sister Mary Bidgood (late Howard) seventy five pounds; & to my cousin Mary Ann McIlwaine seventy five pounds & to her sister Rachel McIlwaine seventy five pounds
Item I give to the poor of Pine Street meeting fifty pounds to be disposed of as my executors shall direct
Item I give to the Society for the Relief of the Poor aged and inform masters of ships their widows & children the sum of fifty pounds.
Item I give to the contributors to the Pennsylvania Hospital fifty pounds
Item I give to my neise Susannah Hartshorne her heirs & assigns a tract of land No 1 Containing four hundred acres in Hampshire now Hardy County Virginia, I give to my neise Hannah Lewis her heirs & assigns a tract of land No. 2 containing four hundred and twelve acres, I give to my neise Rachel Creekshank her heirs & assigns a tract of land No 3 containing four hundred acres, I give to my cousins Peter & David Saunders their Heirs & assigns a tract of land No. 4 containing Four hundred & Forty acres. I give to my cousins John R Coates and Joseph S Coates their Heirs and Assigns a tract of Land No. 5 containing three hundred & ninety six acres, I give to my cousin William Redwood junior his heirs and assigns a tract of land No. 6 containing two hundred and eight acres. The six tracts are all joining one another with a draft, and numbered from one to six in Hampshire County as per Deeds (now Hardy County)
Item I give to my two nephews Gilbert and William Rodma their Heirs & Assigns a tract of land of Four hundred acres on Grasshick in the aforesaid county.
Item I give to my cousin Joseph Morris his heirs and assigns a lot of ground containing one hundred and forty acres bought of Joseph Westfall, I give to my cousin Reeve Lewis his heirs & assigns a lot of ground containing one hundred acres as per Deed in the County aforesaid. In consideration that William Redwoods Junr land is not in quantity with the other lands I give him fifty pounds in cash
Item I give to my cousin Joseph Morris one hundred pounds I give to my cousin Thomas Morris Junr one hundred pounds
Item I give my share in the Library Company of Philadelphia to my cousin Joseph S Coates
Item I give to my cousins Peter nd David Saunders all my wearing apparel that may be worth accepting - It is my request that my neise Sarah Waln? will accept of ten pounds to purchase a piece of plate as a token of my remembrance of the many favors received from her
Item I give & bequeath the residue of my Estate real and personal in the following manner that is to say one fifth to my niece Susannah Hartshorne, one fifth to my neise Hannah Lewis, one fifth to my neise Rachel Creekshank one fifth to my couns Peter & David Saunders & one fifth to my cousins Hannah & Lydia Coates.
Lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my nephew Nicholas Waln, Samuel Caotes and Joseph S Lewis Executors of this my last will and Testament hereby revoking all those heretofore made by me.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourth day of November in the year our Lord One thousand seven hundred & ninety nine

Phiad Oct 24th Then personally appeared Thomas Shipley & Samuel N Lewis two of the witnesses to the foregoing will and on their solemn affirmation did declare and say that they saw & heard Peter Reeve the Testator sign seal publish and declare the same as and for his list Will & Testament and that at the doing thereof he was of sound mind memory & understanding to the best of their knowledge and belief

The foregoing will being proved Letters Testamentary thereof werer granted unto Nicholas Waln, Samuel Coates & Joseph S Lewis Exr therein named they having first been duly affd truly to perform the same exhibit a true Inventory and render a just and true account when thereunto lawfully required Given under the seal of Office the day and year aforesaid
