Transcript

In the Name of God Amen I Jonah Reeve of Bocking Essex Grocer do make this my last will and testament in manner following first I resign my soul to Almighty God hoping through the merits of Jesus Christ my Saviour to enjoy perpetual rest in heaven my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried in Bocking Meeting Yard as to my worldly effects which God has been pleased to bless me with I dispose of them in manner following that is to say
In the first place give and bequeath to my loving wife all my household furniture linen and plate to my said wife I also give the dwelling house outhouses yard garden and appurtenances which we now occupy for the term of her natural life desiring her to leave to the children al her death as she shall think proper to my son Joseph one copyhold estate in Bocking now in the tenure of J Henington and others to my son Thomas I give one copyhold estate in Bocking now in tenure of Mr Wm Clarke others I desire the business shall be carried on as usual with proper assistance for the support & Benefit of ye family till ye younger of my children shall have reached ye age of 21 years when any of my children marry or enter into Business for themselves with ye consent of their mother I desire and direct ye they may each receive two hundred pounds from ye effects when ye youngest of my children is of age I direct and appoint that all my real and personal estate & effects ot already disposed of shall be equally divided between my wife and children share and share alike first alloting £200 pounds to each of those children who have not already been portioned of I empower my executors notwithstanding to make this Division before the youngest child is of age if they should judge it prudent so to do & in that case direct that a sum sufficient for ye proper support and maintenance of those children who are not of age shall be allotted to each of them in addition to the £200 pounds I have already orderd to be given them and that the whole which thus comes to them shall be invested in Government security where this division is made I direct that twenty pounds may be given Wm Reeve son Jonah of Chelmsford if any of my married children die their share to be equally divided to their children share and share alike if any I do hereby nominate and appoint my wife Revd John Thorowgood Jur Thomas Fuller English & William Reeve of Chelmsford my executors and I do request each of them to accept of twenty pounds for their trouble and account of the whole of my property will be seen in my stock book

This will was proved at London with a Codicil on the twenty third day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seven before the worshipful Samuel Pearce parson Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Honorable Sir William Wynne Knight Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Elizabeth Reeve widow the Relict Joseph Reeve the son of the deceased John Worsley and Fisher Unwin the executors named in the said will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the goods chattels and hedts of the said deceased having been first sworn only to administer.
