Commentary

This is a rather curious deed. The Joseph Reeves mentioned is likely the same one who received a land warrant in 1792 in Burke County. However, the name Willis Brazeal appears to imply a connection to Willis Brazeal Reeves who lived in Pulaski County. The reference in this deed almost certainly is not Willis Brazeal Reeves as he would likely be too young and the surname Reeves is never used in this deed for Willis. Willis B. Reeves was the son of a Joseph Reeves who's will was recorded in Pulaski County. Perhaps he was the same Joseph who appeared in Burke County. There was also a Joel Reeves who appears in both counties in the early 1800s. Some of the family of Jeremiah Reeves was present in Jasper County where this deed was recorded. His wife was named Jane Brazile. One can't help but wonder if all these Reeves were closely connected somehow.
