This indenture made the Twenty fourth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight Hundred and twelve Between Adam Reaves of the State of North Carolina and County of Wayne on the one part and Jesse Slocumb of the same place on the other part Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Eighteen Hundred Dollars the receipt and payment whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold unto him the said Jesse Slocumb a certain tract or plantation or parcel of land Situate lying and being in the aforesaid County of Wayne on the South side of Brookses Swamp Beginning a bunch of small oaks at the head of the Maple branch and runs down the meander thereof to the mouth of the Beaverdam Branch then up the said Branch South 20 Wt 56 pole then So 47 Et 86 pole to a post oak on the side of a bottom thence So 97 pole to a pine Rhodes(?) Corner thence So 35 Et 16 pole to three pines said Rhodes(?) Corner in John Reaves line thence with his line So 272 pole to the Corner a pine thence Et 127 pole to a pine the Corner from thence to the beginning at the head of the Maple Branch to have and to hold the aforesaid land and premises with all and singular the privilege and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the said Jesse Slocumb his heirs Executors Administrators and assigns forever and I the said Adam Reaves for my self my heirs Executors and administrators and assigns do have by covenant promise and agree to warrant with by these presents forever defend the afors'd land and premises and every part and parcel thereof to him the said Jesse Slocumb his heirs and assigns forever In Witness Whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and affixed my Seal the the (sic) day and date firs above writin Signed Sealed & acknowledged in presence of
