Transcript

Know all men by these Presents that I Frederick Rives of the County of Franklin and State of Virginia for and in consideration of the natural Love and affection which I bear to my Daughter Elizabeth Quarles wife of James Quarles of the County of Wilson and State of Tennessee as also for the Better maintainance and preferment of the said Elizabeth Quarles during her natural life (and then for the Benefit of her lawful children) hath granted bargained and by these presents doth give and grant unto the said Elizabeth Quarles during her natural life and after her Death to her lawful children Equally Two Negro Girles one by the name of Jane and the other by the name of Rebecah and all their Increase for her proper use and the use of her Lawful children only at her Decrease. And I the said Frederick Rives do for myself my heirs and assigns for ever warrent and defend the Right and Title of the said two Negro Girles and their Increase unto the said Elizabeth Quarles and to her lawful Children after her Decrease as before mentioned against the claim or claimes of all and every person whatsoever in Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this fifth day of March 1814.

This Deed of Gift from Frederick Rives, to Elizabeth Quarles, was proved by the oath of Joseph Rives, Robert Prunty and Samuel Young, three witnesses hereto, and ordered to be recorded.
