Transcript

This Indenture made the eighth day of January in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and seventeen, Between John Rieves Pilot of the County of Cape May and State of New Jersey of the one part, and William Laws of the same place and state aforesaid of the other part, Whereas John Rieves became possessed of a small gore of land which was formerly the property of his Father Abraham Rieves deceased and laying in the lower township, in said County, Begining at the head of Sandy Brook, joining ands of James R. Hughes, which was formerly his Father, Jacob Hughes. property and lands of Major John Hand and Daniel Hildredth, said Gore of land contains one acre, Together with all the trees, woods, underwoods, improvements, hereditaments and appurtenances whatosever, thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining, and all the estate, right, title, interest, claim and demand thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining and all the estate, right, title interest claim and demand whatsoever of him the said John Reeves, for the consideration of Forty dollars paid or secured to be paid to him the said John Rieves, by the said William Laws, for the above mentioned one acre of land, all and singular the said premises above mentioned and every part thereof, To have and to hold the said one acre of land and singular the said premises above mentioned and every part thereof with the appurtenances, unto the said William Laws his heirs and assigns; to the only proper use and behoof of the said William Laws his heirs and assigns forever; and the said John Rieves for himself, his heirs, executors and administrators doth covenant and grant to and with the said William Laws his heirs and assigns that he the said William Law his heirs and assigns shall and may from henceforth forever hereafter peaceably and quietly, have, hold and occupy, possess and enjoy the said one acre of land without any let, hindrance, interuption, denial of them the said John Reives or his heirs any or either of them, or any other person or persons whatsoever, that shall or may claim from him, them or any of them, under any pretence whatsoever, In witness whereof the said John Rieves have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.
