Transcript

In the name of God Amen I Thomas Reeve Jun of Southold in Suffolk County and State of New York for the purpose of putting my house in order for death which I know is appointed unto all men and being of a sound disposing mind do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following that is to say
First I give unto my beloved wife Elizabeth one cow one swine her choice in each a sufficient quantity of grain of all kind also a sufficient quantity of meat for one year also a sufficient quantity of fodder for the cow during the winter and as much house hold furniture as my executors hereafter named shall deem necessary for her comfortably to keep house also I give unto my said wife all my landed estate so long as she remains my widow after my executors have disposed of enough to pay all my debts which they are here after authorised to do also I give and devise unto all my children their heirs and assigns all the residue and remainder of my estate to be divided equally between them after debts are paid and I authorize and empower my executors after selling my personal property except as sufficient for my wife comfortably to keep house to sell my shop also to sell the lot of land opposite my fathers house also the tract of land formerly owned by John Clark and if the sale of the above named lot of land should not be enough to discharge all my debts I order my executors to sell so much of my Hickory wood as would be sufficient and to pay my debts also I give unto my wife all the grain on the ground. Lastly I appoint and constitute my friends Luther Reeve and James W Reeve of Southold executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills whatsoever. In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal the fifth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty two signed sealed and pronounced and declared by the said Thomas Reeve Jr to be his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.

Suffolk County } Be it Remembered that on the eleventh day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty two personally appeared before me Nicoll Floyd Esquire Surrogate of the said County James W Reeve he being duly sworn in his oath declared that he saw Thomas Reeve Jun sign and seal an instrument in writing purporting to be the will of said Thomas Reeve Jun bearing date the fifth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty two the preceeding whereof is a true copy and heard him publish and declare the same as and for his last Will and Testament that at the time thereof he the said Thomas Reeve Jur was of sound disposing mind and memory to the best of the knowledge and belief of him the deponent that his name subscribed as a witness to the said will is of his own proper hand writing and that he saw Nathaniel Hubbard and John Reeve subscribe their names as witnesses thereto at the same time with him in presence of the testator.
