Thomas and James Allen are identified as sons of Thomas Allen in an 1816 Essex County deed of trust between James Allen, party of the first part, Graves Burke and Richard Miller, parties of the second part and Thomas Allen, party of the third part. [Deed Book 39, pages 256/257]

On 15 December 1800, Elizabeth B. Allen, William Latane and a John Jones were bound $20,000 for Elizabeth B. Allen’s execution of the last will and testament of Thomas Allen. Signed Elizabeth her X mark Allen, WLatane, John Jones. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, page 50.]

On 26 January 1801, an appraisal of the estate of Thomas Allen was made by Lewis Dix, James Allen and Ambrose Hunley. No total. Ordered recorded 16 February 1801. [Essex County, Virginia, Will Book 16, pages 57–58.]

The will of James Allen who died in 1826 identifies his sister Susanna Latane whose husband was probably Henry Waring Latane who was named as James' executor.
