Narrative
William enlisted as a Private on 4 March 1862 in Company H, Georgia 42nd Infantry Regiment of the CSA . He was promoted to Full 2nd Corporal on 11 May 1863 and died on 30 May 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi. Both of William's brothers served in the same company and regiment and all three were participants in the seige of Vicksburg. John and Beverly were prisoners of war, then paroled and released. The military file of William lists his middle initial as both "T" and "P" alternately so it is unclear which is his correct name; however since the fathers of Evaline and James Powell Blasingame were William and Phillip, it seems likely that his name is William P.
It does not appear that William Blasingame, son of Evaline Geer and James Powell Blasingame married or had children. There are several other William Blasingames in Georgia, one of whom, William W. Blasingame's son William W. has been attributed to him, but records of that family verify that it is a different family. William W., the child, was born in 1866 after the death of this William Blasingame and his 1924 death certificate from DeKalb County names his parents as William W. Blasingame and Mary or Winnie Welborn. That death certificate also states that he was born in Augusta, Georgia.
