The Current Story for Group 06C
The known patriarch of DNA Group 06C is Isaac Reeves who is recorded in Lunenberg and Mecklenberg Counties of Virginia in the 1760s and migrated west to Wilkes County, North Carolina by the late 1770s. After Isaac's death around 1807, his children migrated both north and westward, some settling in northern Kentucky along the Ohio River, later moving into Indiana and Illinois while others migrated to Tennessee and eventually Arkansas. This family's surname was originally spelled Reeve without an S since the documents found to have original signatures of sons Peter, James and Isaac, Jr. all show that they wrote their names REEVE.The biography of Isaac's grandson John Reeves, son of James published 1884 in History of Morgan, Monroe & Brown County (Indiana) states that Isaac and his wife Margery came from Ireland and that James was born in Ireland before their arrival in the colonial US.
There are four individuals in Group 06C. Three of the four match on 37 out of 37 markers with the fourth participant matching 34 of 37. This lineage appears to be closely related to or descend from Peter Reeves of Searcy, Arkansas. Peter was the son of Isaac Reeves who is first positively identified in Wilkes County, North Carolina.
Prior to the availability of DNA testing to determine family connections, Isaac Reeves had been believed to be a descendant of William Reeves who died in Granville County, North Carolina in 1751. DNA testing, however, indicates that Isaac's lineage is from another Reeves line whose origins are currently unknown.
