Narrative
Very little is known of Polly Doughton, but her husband Denny Robinson, born 2 Dec 1808 in Grayson County, Virginia, is named in several deeds by the heirs of Joseph Doughton recorded in Ashe County NC's Deed Book V. The wording of the deeds only lists her husband as it does for her married sisters; however, the daughters of Joseph Doughton signed the deeds along with their husbands. Polly Robinson has signed each of those deeds when they were written on 14 Sep 1832.Research Notes
It is possible that Polly died sometime after those deeds were written in 1832 and Sep of 1833 when they were presented in Court to be registered. Each of her married sisters Charity Ann Doughton McGimsey, Jane Doughton Cox and Elizabeth Doughton Reves were interviewed to vouch that their consents had been freely given to their husbands' participation in the deeds, but although Polly had signed the deeds in 1832, she was not included in the consents which may indicate that she was deceased by that time. After Polly's death Denny Robinson apparently migrated to Jefferson County, Illinois where he is found in census records from 1850 to 1880. Polly was definitely deceased by the 2nd of October of 1840 when Denny Robinson married Elizabeth French in Jefferson, Illinois. Elizabeth French Robinson apparently died within a few years because on 19 Sep in 1849, Denny Robinson married widowed Mrs. Demeris Payne Holtzclaw.
Polly and Denny Robinson do not appear to have had any children for in no census records are children of Denny Robinson listed other than step-children from his marriage to Mrs. Demeris Holtzclaw.
