Location

The City of Gloucester lies on the River Severn and is approximately 32 miles north east of Bristol and 115 miles west of London. For additional general infrmation about Gloucester, please see Wikipedia:Gloucester.

In addition to the Cathedral Church of St Peter and the Holy and Indivisible Trinity otherwise known as Gloucester Cathedral, the city has had many parishes within it area.

A History of the County of Gloucester: Volume 4: The City of Gloucester (published 1988) notes that in mid 17th centry Gloucester had 11 churches with parochial function. In 1648 the city corporation obtained an ordinance for a re-organisation of the city's parishes. Four parishes were created, served from the churches of St. John the Baptist, St. Mary de Crypt, St. Michael, and St. Nicholas.

NB. In some instances, modern parishes of the same name have been created. Please treat them as being distinct.
