Isaac enlisted as a private in Captain John Dickerson's Company, Colonel Archibald Lytle's Regiment of Light Horse, North Carolina Line on April 16, 1776. Hr was in several skirmishes with the Tories. It seemed that Isaac was the only soldier who had a workable gun in constant use, which was noticed by Nicholis Long, Deputy Quartermaster General. He had Isaac transferred to his jurisdiction. Eventually Isaac was transferred to the Public Shops repairing arms for the Army . He was discharged on October 16, 1778, after serving for two and one half years.

In 1788 Isaac married Elizabeth Hines. She was born in 1763 in Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina. Her father Thomas Hines was a very prominent American Revolutionary War soldier. The Roster of Soldiers from North Carolina in the American Revolution published in 1932 by the North Carolina DAR states " Thomas Hines, 2nd Major, Wake County, North Carolina" elected as a member, Common House Of Assembly for Wake County pg 784, Vol xlll Clarks State Records, House Journal, State of N.C., May 1779) owned considerable property in Granville County, North Carolina.

Isaac was a cabinet maker by trade. During Isaac and Elizabeth's thirty five years of marriage they had six children; William Hines Hicks, Robert Hicks, Sarah Hicks, Kitty Hicks, and two unknown daughters. On June 21, 1824, in Oglethorpe County, Georgia Isaac applied for a pension due to his American Revolutionary War services. Isaac was given a pension of eight dollars a month and 228 acres of land in North Carolina Isaac passed away in 1826, the pension ended on September of 1826. (From

December 27, 1779--Robert Hicks, Sr., deed to Issac Hicks of Wake County, N. C., but if he shall fail to leave an heir of his body then the land should go to George Bell, son of Thomas and Sary Bell, grandson of said Robert Hicks, Sr.

April 4, 1789--Isaac Hicks of Wake County, N. C., deed to Thomas Satterwhite of Granville County, N. C., for the tract of land that Robert Hicks, Sr., conveyed to his son, Isaac Hicks on December 29, 1779.

February 3, 1784, Robert Hicks, Sr., sold to his son Isaac Hicks, for 100 pounds, two negros and a silver spoon to seal the bargan. His son, Thomas and daughter Betsey were listed as witness.

February 7, 1784--Thomas Hicks, Isaac Hicks, and Robert Hicks, Jr., make bond to Robert Hicks, Sr., for 2,000 silver dollars to main tain Robert Hicks, Sr., and his wife Sarah for their lifetime. Witness' were John and Lucretia Lock.
