Burr Oak Herald (Kansas), 19 Nov 1903
Frances Dickerson was born October 11, 1823, in Dearborn county, Indiana, and her girlhood days were spent in that country. In 1840 she was married to David G. Reeves and to that union four children were born all of whom are still living. They are Mrs. J. M. Mclndoo of Greely, Colorado, who was with her when she went away; Elias Reeves of Franklin county, Kansas, who arrived too late to see his mother alive; Amos Reeves of Centralis, Washington and William Reeves who lives in Indiana.
Her first husband dying she was in April 1855 married to John Johnson. The three children born to this marriage all died in early life.
"Grandma" Johnson as she was familiarly called was converted about 1848 and united with the Methodist church and in 1855 became a member of the Baptist church and remained in faithful fellowship until the messenger of death called her to rest a few minutes before two o'clock Friday morning, November 13, 1903 after a brief illness of only a week. Her age was 70 years, 1 month and 2 days. She had resided in Burr Oak for the past twenty-four years. From every standpoint Grandma Johnson was a splendid woman and was held in the highest esteem by everyone who knew her. The funeral was held at the Baptist church last Sunday afternoon at two o'clock and was conducted by her pastor, Rev. A. B. Roberts of Smith Center. The remains were followed to their resting place by many sorrowing friends and tenderly laid away in the Burr Oak cemetery.
