Gabriel's father Daniel mentions him and his three eldest sons in his will as follows:
- I give and bequeath to my son Gabriel Foster the sum of two hundred Dollars also I give him the sum of one hundred and fifty Dollars to be paid by him to his three oldest sons my grandchildren John William and Emmet fifty Dollars each as they shall respectively attain the age of twenty one years.
Gabriel appears in Wallkill, Orange County, New York in the 1830 census.
By 1850, they had moved to Milan, Michigan where "G. F. Reeves" was listed, age 50, born in New York, with Caroline (23), Emmett (23), Ruth Ann (20), Mary J. (14), Edward (17), and Daniel F.
Son Daniel's death certificate states that his mother was Sarah "Neumann" from Pennsylvania. However, the marriage record gives her name as Caroline E. Newman.
