Daniel of Wallkill, Orange County, New York wrote his will on 21 Mar 1839 and it was probated 11 Apr 1840. He mentions wife Mary, children James Theodore Reeve, Gabriel Foster Reeve, Belinda Gale, Sophronia Minerva Hulse, grandchildren Daniel Clark, Henry Clark, William Clark, Patience Clark, and Matilda Clark, and grandchildren John William and Emmet sons of his son Gabriel. William W. Reeve was one of the executors and David R. Reeve signed as a witness. These were sons of his brother David.

Research Notes

This Daniel should not be confused with Daniel Reeve, also of Orange County, who died 12 Oct 1824 and also had brothers named Isaac and James. References to that Daniel's son James C. Reeve and Daniel's brother James Reeve who died 18 Jun 1814 show that they are a different set of siblings than the children of this Daniel's father James Reeve.

A letter written by Ann Elizabeth W. Reeve to Andrea Kelly on 13, March 1995, an image of which was shared on Ancestry by user 'canis1' states that Daniel's widow, Mary Valentine Payne Reeve entered the following information in her Bible:

• Belinda Jane Reeve was born February the 28 in the year 1802
• Belinda J Gale departed this life October 30th 1846 in her 47th year
• Ruth Reeve died 2 June 1817 in her 46th year
• Daniel Reeve was born 14 March 1773 and died 15 February 1840 aged 67

She stated that Belinda was a daughter of Daniel and his first wife Ruth.

Daniel's widow Mary may be the Mary Reeve listed in Wallkill in the 1840 census. There was a James T. Reeves, age 16, listed in Goshen in 1850 with a Mary Reeves (60), presumably his mother. This is likely Daniel's widow and young son.
