An article in the The Wabash Courier in Vigo County, Indiana from 1839 indicates that Garrett was an heir of Elias Reeve.

In 1846, Garrett W. Reeve and Mary Reeve of Crawford County, Pennsylvania, sold some land in Vigo County, Indiana as "heirs at law of Elias Reeve Senior late of said Vigo County."

His headstone states he "Died July 20 1880 Aged 81 Ys & 9M."
