Not much is known of this John William Reeve. His will describes him as of "the Bell Tan Newgate Market in the City of London Sirewed? Victualler and of Chingford in the County of Essex farmer." He mentions his wife Martha and his nephew James Sawkins.From Hatfield Broad Oak, St Mary the Virgin, Essex Parish Register:
- John William Reeve Bachelor of this Parish and Martha Sawkins of this Parish were married in this Church by Licence...this twenty ninth Day of January in the Year One thousand eight hundred and 17 by me John Chamberlayne Perpetual Curate of Norton Mandeville
In 1851, he was living in Chingford, Essex, farmer, age 56, born in Stock, Essex. With him are wife Martha (61), and servants Thomas Green (54), Mary Green (55), Susan Green (their daughter) (11), John Squires (22) and James Wright (23).
According to Findagrave, they are buried in and the stones read: "Sacred to the memory of/Mr John William Reeve/for many years a respected habitant/of this Parish/Who departed this life/18th Nov 1855/in the 61st year of his age/Also Martha/Wife of the above/Who died May 5th 1861/Aged 75"
