An article in the The Wabash Courier in Vigo County, Indiana from 1839 indicates that Garrett was an heir of Elias Reeve.

Mrs. Martha A. Reeve.
Mrs Martha A. Reeve, died, Tuesday, February 2d, at her residence, No. 532 south Fourth street. She was born in North Carolina, March 20th, 1813. She was the wife of Jonas Reeve, who died thirty years ago. She was the mother of eleven children, eight sons and three daughters, of which seven are dead. She was a member of the United Brethen church for fifty years. For eleven years she was an invalid.
