  2. Samuel Reeve, b. Oct 1807

Baptism from Mattituck Presbyterian Church records:
  • Nathaniel Reeve | James & Anna | Dec 29, 1760

Nathaniel was a minister at Mattituck Presbyterian from 1817 to 1823 according to the church records. They record he died 9 Apr 1833, in agreement with his headstone in the church cemetery.

The obituary of his son Samuel indicates that Samuel was born in Bedford, Virginia, possibly indicating that the family was living there. It also mentions that Samuel moved to New York City at age fifteen, which would be around 1822. Given that Nathaniel was dismissed from his ministerial duties in 1823, this could have been connected to the family moving to New York City.

The mention in his son Samuel's obituary that he was born in Bedford City, Virginia also fits well with the marriage record of Nathaniel to Miriam Erwin there in 1795. Her maiden name is recorded on her headstone which confirms this is the same couple.

Research Notes

A Nathaniel Reeve living in Bridgeton, New Jersey lists parents as Nathaniel and Miriam Reeve in his death record. This couple probably had a number of other children.
