Narrative

Richard REEVE is the second of three known children of Richard REEVE and his wife Elizabeth (nee REEVE COATS). (See Research Note 1 below.)  He was baptised in latter half of January 1786 at the Parish Church of St Michael and All Angels, Bishop's Cleeve, Gloucestershire. The Bishop's Transcript of the parish register notes the family were "of Gotherington", a hamlet in the north of the Parish of Bishop's Cleeve.

Richard REEVE married Elizabeth HAWKINS in October 1823 at the same church in Bishop's Cleeve. They were married by Banns and both were "of this Parish". One of the witnesses to the marriage is a John REEVE (who made his mark), but it is not known how he and the groom were related.

The known children of Richard REEVE and his wife Elizabeth (nee Hawkins) are
  1. Mary Reeve, born c1827
  2. Eliza Reeve, born c1829
  3. Ann Reeve, born c1833
  4. Elizabeth Reeve, born c1837
On the 1841 census taken on 6 June, Richard and Elizabeth plus their four children are living in the hamlet of Gotherington in Bishop's Cleeve, Gloucestershire. Richard works as an Agricultural Labourer and is noted as being 50 years old and as having been born in county (Gloucestershire).

At the time of the 1851 census, on 30 March, Richard is again to be found in Gotherington. He is now a Widower and his youngest daughter Elizabeth is still living with him. Richard is 65 years old and gives his place of birth as Gotherington, Gloucestershire. Both he and his daughter work as Agricultural Labourers.
It is likely that Richard's wife Elizabeth Reeve's death is that noted by FreeBMD during the second quarter of 1848 in the Winchcomb Registration District. She was 53 years old at death.

A decade later and the 1861 census shows Richard and his daughter Elizabeth have remained in Gotherington. All his details remain consistent.
Richard has not been identified on the 1871 census and it is highly probable his is the death noted by FreeBMD during the third quarter of 1862 in the Winchcomb Registration District.   He was 75 years old.
